How The Set Is Built
Gem Packs are built differently from a standard expansion. Each Pokémon gets a run of seven numbered cards: six holo versions of its regular artwork, each with a different foil pattern, followed by an illustration rare with full art. Vol. 7 has 28 Pokémon, which makes 196 cards, and every one of them is holo.
Pokémon China lists the foil treatments as type-pattern foils, Master Ball pattern foils and foils printed with the Gem Pack logo, alongside the illustration rare that closes each run.
The theme is Psyduck and Pokémon shown with their Trainers, which is why so many of the illustration rares pair a Pokémon with the person it belongs to.
Misty's Psyduck In Seven Cards
Psyduck is the cover Pokémon, and its run shows the format clearly. The six regular versions share Yuu Nishida's artwork, first printed in English in Destined Rivals, with a different foil pattern on each card. Card 6 of 7 carries the Gem Pack logo stamp.
The Misty's Psyduck Illustration Rare
This is the card most collectors will open Vol. 7 for. Cona Nitanda drew new art for the set: Psyduck on a pool lounger reaching for a beach ball, with Misty behind it. Early coverage expects it to stay exclusive to the Simplified Chinese release.
Like every illustration rare in a Gem Pack, it closes its Pokémon's run, so a complete Psyduck run means all six holo versions plus this card.
Pokémon With Their Trainers
Six more illustration rares have been revealed so far, each closing its own run of seven. Unlike Misty's Psyduck, these reuse artwork that has already been printed in English.
Psyduck Collector Album
A Psyduck collector album releases the same day. It holds 30 cards, one per page, in a compact format with Psyduck on the cover.
What Is Inside A Booster Box
A sealed Gemstone Vol.7 booster box holds 18 packs of 4 cards, 72 cards in total, and all of them are foil. There are no plain commons in the set.
Pack contents are random. Specific Pokémon, foil patterns and rarities are not guaranteed, duplicates are possible, and with 196 cards in the set, one box will not complete it.
